It is offered As-Is, not covered by a warranty. - 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet Chassis No. 180344 Engine No. 180.924.Z8500286 Specifications: 6 Cylinder Overhead Camshaft, 2,195cc, 100hp @ 4850 rpm, with two dual downdraft carburetors, and semi-automatic 4 spd transmission. The 220S cabriolet was luxuriously appointed and offered many of the amenities associated with Mercedes-Benzs limited production 300 series. These included two-tone paint and reclining seats in addition to interior brightwork and wood veneer trim. Seats and trim were leather, complemented by wool carpets. The exterior was distinguished by additional bright trim. The rear seats folded down to accommodate additional luggage. The top, unlike earlier Mercedes-Benz cabriolets, was nearly hidden below a soft top boot cover, giving these small cabriolets an almost roadster-like smoothness of line when the top was down. Where the 220 sedans were dowdy and practical, the 220S cabriolets projected an image of subtle elegance. From 1 Mercedes-Benz would produce only 2178 220S Cabriolets. It would join the ranks of limited productions cars such as the 220SE, 300SL and the 300S among others. The 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S cabriolet offered here is a beautiful 2 owner documented example. It is nicely presented in two tone beige over blue with a cream-colored leather interior beautifully accented by varnished wood trim. This carefully preserved example was purchased in South Africa (via Germany) 35 years ago by the Cabriolets second and most recent owner. Shortly after purchase, the engine was rebuilt by Cargo Motors in Johannesburg (M.B. dealer), as well as the installation of new carpeting, top, paintwork and chrome. In 1979, the 220S and its owner were relocated to San Antonio, TX the car was shipped overseas and brought into the U.S. through the port of Houston. Always garaged and lovingly maintained, the largely original cabin exhibits a beautiful patina and comes equipped with a semi-automatic transmission, power-assisted brakes, Blaupunkt radio and the rarely seen folding rear seat to accommodate additional luggage. Other accessories include original Bosch driving lamps, period Hartmann luggage set and an impressive file of ownership and service records from 1.
