Apprentice Electrician, Commercial in Houston, Texas

Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industry.
Responsibilities:
Assist by performing tasks under supervision of an electrician.
Basic blueprint knowledge
Layout from field sketches
Panel terminations
Size conduit and boxes
Controls - familiarize
Transformer terminations
Motor terminations
Underground rough-in materials
Assist in setting light poles
Assist Journeyman in decision making and layout
 
Position Requirements:
Must be able to pass background check(s)
Must be fluent in the English language
18 years of age or older
Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Must have valid Texas Driver?s License
High School graduate, holder of G.E.D. or equivalent training
Working Conditions:
Requires working in all environmental elements.
Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
Employee to have required personal tools with them at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.)
Be able to work from all types of ladders.
Perform work at various heights, up to 90? from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, etc.)
Wear personal protective equipment in compliance with Company Safety Policy.
Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and night shifts.
Skills:
Be able to positively identify colors.
Comprehend blueprints and schematics of same.
Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
Must use all power hand tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches.
Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
Operate equipment, trenchers, backhoe, lift trucks in a safe manner.
Practices and comprehends safe work procedures as outlined in Safety Policy, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
Operates two (2) handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammers drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
Read and interprets maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints and written instructions.
Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas powered),
Physical Function:
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
Lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Constantly moving on your feet.
Climb ladders (all types).
Completing overhead work for full day assignments.
Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladders or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete their assigned tasks.
